What Can You Bring to Sepang? The Official List, Item by Item

By Will Tygart · October 1, 2026 · Filed Oct 1, 2026 · updated through race weekend

WHAT GOES IN THE BAG?
The official T&Cs ban specific items. Everything else is unverified — including half the fan guides.

The official document is the ticket T&Cs — nothing else

Sepang International Circuit has published no spectator/prohibited-items page for this F1 weekend. The only official document is the ticket terms and conditions on bahraingp.com (promoter: Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd, clauses 28–36). Every fan guide, checklist, and carousel quoting other rules is secondary. This article marks each item official or unverified.

Two process notes from the T&Cs: your bag and person can be inspected at entry, and refusal means refused entry (clause 33). Anything surrendered is disposed of with no liability (clause 36). Pack like someone else decides.

Officially banned — don't pack these

Your own food and drink, bottles, cans, glass vessels — unless the Venue Regulations permit them (clause 34). Plan to buy drinks inside.

Weapons and weapon-like items — knives, bladed items, firearms, ammunition, personal protection sprays (clause 34).

Fireworks, smoke canisters, flares, air-horns, vuvuzelas, whistles (clause 34).

Drones, phone jammers, radio scanners, walkie-talkies, laser devices, selfie sticks (clause 34).

Bicycles, roller-skates, skateboards, scooters, prams (clause 34).

Political, religious, or offensive-slogan items (clause 34).

Animals — no pets; registered assistance dogs only (clause 28).

Anything that could sabotage or damage property (clause 34).

Cameras: the official line is friendlier than the guides say

The T&Cs (clauses 37–39) explicitly permit personal electronic devices — including still-image cameras, mobile phones and handheld comms devices — for personal, private, non-commercial use. Recording "for anything other than personal" use is forbidden, and unauthorised recordings may be confiscated and destroyed.

Crucially, the official document draws no phone-versus-professional line. The "professional cameras banned" wording that circulates comes from a reseller's visitor-rules page (TicketsGP s.r.o., self-described as unofficial) — not from the circuit. Fans at the Thursday pit-lane walk were asking whether detachable-lens cameras are allowed; the honest official answer is that the T&Cs don't define a pro boundary. Practical advice: if your kit looks professional, expect scrutiny at the gate.

Umbrellas: no official ban exists

Umbrellas appear on neither the official prohibited list nor any SIC statement we could find. Do not let anyone tell you they're banned — no official rule says so. The practical note from a secondary F1 guide: in a packed grandstand you'll be asked to lower one, so a poncho is the better call. (Singapore's GP does ban umbrella use in grandstands — that's a different event; don't import its rules.)

Water bottles and tumblers: officially banned, practically murky

Bottles are banned by name in the T&Cs ("bottles, cans, glass vessels"). A "one sealed 600ml bottle" allowance appears only in secondary sources and the MotoGP-at-SIC FAQ — a different event. For this F1 weekend it is unverified. Don't count on it; buy water inside.

Folding chairs: officially unverified — conflicting claims

Folding chairs aren't mentioned in the official T&Cs at all. A secondary F1 guide claims they're banned; the MotoGP-at-SIC FAQ allows camping chairs (again, different event). Genuine conflict, officially unverified — travel light rather than risk it.

Power banks, flags, and the rest

Power banks: recommended by an unofficial visitor page, not mentioned in the T&Cs — officially unverified, but no reason to leave one behind given phone-battery reality at a race weekend.

Flags and banners: political/offensive ones are officially banned; the "over a metre" size limits in guides are unverified.

Same-day re-entry: the T&Cs only bar admission or re-admission "after the end of each day" (clause 12). Leaving and coming back the same day is unverified — don't claim either way, and don't plan around it.

What you must bring

Your ticket (clause 8). Proof of identity / MyKad for discounted-ticket holders — MyKad-discounted tickets are valid exclusively for MyKad holders and are invalidated without refund if you can't show one (clause 10). If you bought a resale MyKad ticket and don't hold a MyKad, you may have bought an expensive souvenir — see our resale scam checklist.

Hearing protection, especially for children — the T&Cs specifically advise it (clause 24). And for the heat half of the weekend, see our spectator heat guide: sunscreen, cap, poncho, and a hydration plan.

Quick answers

Can I bring an umbrella to Sepang?
No official ban exists — umbrellas are not on the prohibited list. But you'll be asked to lower one in a packed grandstand; a poncho is the practical answer.

Can I bring a water bottle or tumbler?
The official T&Cs ban bottles by name. A sealed-600ml allowance is claimed only by secondary sources and a different event's FAQ — unverified for this F1 weekend.

Can I bring a professional camera?
The official T&Cs permit personal cameras for private, non-commercial use and define no pro boundary. The 'pro cameras banned' wording comes from an unofficial reseller page. If your kit looks professional, expect scrutiny.

Can I bring a folding chair?
Officially unverified — chairs aren't mentioned in the T&Cs. Secondary sources conflict. Travel light.

Can I bring my own food and drink?
Officially banned unless the Venue Regulations permit it. Plan to buy inside the circuit.

Can I leave and re-enter the same day?
Unverified. The T&Cs only bar re-admission after the end of each day. Don't plan around same-day re-entry.
