Sepang F1 Shuttle Buses: Where to Catch the Free Ride
By Will Tygart · October 1, 2026
The single most-asked transport question of the weekend is also the simplest: where do I catch the free shuttle bus to the circuit? Here is the whole answer in one place. Rapid KL's free shuttles serve up to four pick-up hubs, October 2–4, 7:00 AM to midnight, departing every 10 to 15 minutes. Once you are inside the circuit, 30 more free shuttles run non-stop, 7 AM to midnight, connecting the Welcome Centre, Main Grandstand, Paddock & Pit Building, South Paddock, and the other spectator areas.
One wrinkle we will not smooth over: the official sources disagree on the bus count. Rapid KL's own release (September 30) says 95 buses from three points — KLIA T2 Level 1, Mitsui, and De-Village Enstek. The SIC CEO's later press conference said 115 buses and four hubs, adding the KLIA long-term car park. We report both until one side clarifies; either way, the hubs below and the 10–15-minute frequency are consistent across sources.
One more caveat: the shuttles are advertised for race days, October 2–4 — not clearly for Thursday's pit-lane walk. If you are heading to the walk today, plan a backup (Grab to a hub area, or a friend with a pass).
This page is the hub finder. Pick the hub that fits how you are getting to Sepang, and go.
The four shuttle hubs
Rapid KL has not said whether you will need to show a race ticket to board. Carry yours regardless — staff are on hand at every hub to help, and the organizer's transport page plus Rapid KL's website and social channels carry the official routes and any last-minute changes.
Taking Grab: the rules, rider-side
E-hailing is restricted this weekend, and the official announcements are written for drivers. Here is what it means for you as a rider: only Grab Standard 6-Seater vehicles are allowed direct to the circuit gates. Standard 4-seaters, Advance Bookings, and Group Rides are prohibited from entering the main venue area — traffic marshals will turn them back at the perimeter checkpoints.
For every other Grab tier, set your destination in the app to one of the shuttle hubs above — not the circuit address. SoyaCincau published a Grab drop-off explainer on Thursday, but the exact bay is still unresolved in the sources we checked — the shuttle hub remains the safest answer. Before you confirm the ride, check that your destination pin matches one of the approved hubs. From the Long-Term Car Park, free Grab-chartered shuttles carry you to the circuit with priority boarding for Grab passengers.
Budget extra time for both the car trip and the shuttle transfer — heavy congestion around the airport and circuit is expected all weekend, and e-hailing demand is forecast to jump 200–300% (LEAD Malaysia). Fans are already posting about RM80 surge fares. Grab shows your fare upfront in the app; there is no fixed official fare. Full transport guide has the taxi and train options too.
Riding a motorcycle: banned from the circuit
Plain statement first: motorcycles are banned from entering Sepang International Circuit during the Grand Prix. SIC's CEO confirmed it — restricting private vehicles and prohibiting motorcycles is the core of this year's traffic plan with the Royal Malaysia Police, after 27 years of congestion from letting everything in.
The workaround the riding community is using: park the bike at KLIA T2, Mitsui Outlet Park, or Enstek and take the free shuttle in. Do not ride to a checkpoint hoping for discretion — there are 8 police checkpoints from Friday morning, and the KLIA police chief's advice is blunt: no ticket and no parking sticker means you are turned away. His words: do not come to look.
Driving: parking pass, checkpoints, collection
Correction (Oct 1): an earlier version of this article stated that parking passes are collected at the BIC stand at Mitsui Outlet Park. We could not confirm the "BIC stand" detail with an official source, so we removed it. Separately, organizer emails reported by BusinessToday (Sep 24) point to Mitsui Outlet Park as the collection point — we have not verified that against an official SIC release, so check your confirmation email for the exact point before you set off.
If you drive, three facts decide your day. One: every car entering the venue needs a valid parking pass — no pass, no entry, turned back at the checkpoints. Two: passes are collected in advance — organizer emails reported by BusinessToday (Sep 24) point to Mitsui Outlet Park, but we have not confirmed that with an official SIC source, so follow the instructions in your confirmation email. Three: expect 8 police checkpoints around KLIA and the circuit, 8 AM to 11 PM daily, with no roadside parking — you will be summoned or towed.Three-day parking passes start at about RM244 (priced in Bahraini Dinar at checkout — this is Bahrain's race, remember), and the cheapest zone is already reported sold out. If the math hurts, parking at a shuttle hub and riding the free bus in can cost less than circuit parking.
And a warning KLIA itself issued on Thursday: do not drive to KLIA to park for the race. More than 200,000 spectators are expected over the three days, with daily crowds above 100,000 — Terminal 1 and the long-term car park are expected to fill early. Take the ERL to KLIA, then the free shuttle from T2, the long-term car park, or Mitsui. Police diversions run 8 AM–11 PM, and air passengers should add time.
What time to leave
Gates open 8:30 AM Friday and Saturday, 10:00 AM Sunday (official organizer release). The race starts 3:00 PM Sunday. The shuttles run until midnight, so there is no cliff edge on the way out — but there are queues, and the post-race wave is the worst of the weekend.
Rule of thumb for Sunday: be at a shuttle hub by noon for a 3 PM race. From KL city, accredited F1 photographer Kym Illman puts the drive at about an hour — and that is before race-day traffic. If you are flying in, the Sama Sama Hotel by KLIA is a 14-minute drive from the circuit and beats a city hotel for race mornings. Do not book a Sunday-evening flight out of KLIA with a two-hour buffer; you will spend that buffer in a shuttle queue. The race-week guide has the full weekend picture.
Quick answers
Four free Rapid KL hubs, Oct 2–4, 7 AM–midnight, every 10–15 min: Mitsui Outlet Park · KLIA Terminal 2 (Level 1) · KLIA Long-Term Car Park · Bandar Baru Enstek. Plus 30 free shuttles inside the circuit.
Only Grab Standard 6-Seater goes direct to the gates. Every other Grab tier drops at one of the four shuttle hubs — then ride the free shuttle in.
No — motorcycles are banned from SIC during the GP. Park at KLIA T2, Mitsui, or Enstek and shuttle in.
In advance — organizer emails reported by BusinessToday (Sep 24) point to Mitsui Outlet Park, unconfirmed by an official SIC release. Check your confirmation email for the exact point before you set off. You cannot buy your way in at the gate.
Gates open 9 AM. For Sunday's 3 PM race, be at a shuttle hub by noon. Coming from KL city, allow a full hour plus the shuttle transfer.
Not confirmed — Rapid KL has not said. Carry your ticket anyway; you will need it at the circuit gates regardless.
