The Sepang Concerts Guide: Garrix, Axwell, and What Your Ticket Doesn't Cover

Formula 1's return to Sepang comes with a full entertainment program — and the two biggest names are genuine global headliners. Here's the critical thing most buyers miss: the concerts are not included in your race ticket. Each show needs a separate concert pass. Read this before you assume you're in.
Who's playing, and when
Saturday, October 3 — Axwell, after qualifying. The Grammy-nominated Swedish DJ and producer is a co-founder of Swedish House Mafia and one half of Axwell Λ Ingrosso — one of the defining figures of modern electronic music, and a festival headliner worldwide.
Sunday, October 4 — Martin Garrix, headlining the post-race concert. The Dutch hitmaker broke through with 'Animals,' has been ranked number one in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll multiple times, and has amassed more than a billion streams, with collaborations spanning Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, and U2. This is the weekend's biggest night.
Your race ticket does not include the concerts
Say it again for the people in the back: no race ticket — grandstand, hillstand, or otherwise — includes concert access. A separate ticket is required for each concert, and they're sold as upgrades. This is the single most common point of confusion around the weekend, so if you bought a race ticket assuming the music came with it, you're not alone — but you do need to act.
How the upgrades work
The official upgrade pricing, announced jointly by Bahrain International Circuit and Sepang International Circuit: US$50 per person (about RM202) for Axwell on Saturday, and US$100 per person (about RM405) for Martin Garrix on Sunday. Each concert needs its own upgrade — one pass doesn't cover both nights.
The early window was tied to buying race-weekend tickets by early September; since then, upgrades have been offered first-come, first-served, subject to limited venue capacity, with instructions sent directly to ticket holders by email. If you hold a race ticket and haven't received upgrade instructions, check your spam folder, then contact the official channels — don't wait until Saturday.
Third-party sellers list concert passes too (one currently shows the Garrix pass at €94), but note the rules: a concert pass alone does not grant venue access — you must also hold a valid F1 ticket, and you can't buy more concert passes than you have F1 tickets in your booking. Quantities are described as extremely limited.
Is the Sunday show worth it?
Honestly? If you like electronic music at all, yes. A post-race headline set from one of the world's biggest DJs, with the whole weekend crowd still buzzing — it's the kind of night people remember longer than the race. The US$100 price is steep next to a RM200 hillstand ticket, but it's in line with what Garrix commands at festivals worldwide.
The practical case against: it's a late night, and then you still have to get out. The shuttles run until midnight, so plan around that — the transport guide has the full exit picture. If you're flying out Sunday night, the concert probably isn't for you. If you're staying over, it's the obvious way to close the weekend.
Saturday's Axwell show is the easier call at half the price — a world-class set with less of a late-night penalty, since Sunday's race is the main event.
Practical notes
The concerts take place at the circuit — check the email from the organizers for the exact stage location and entry procedure, as this hasn't been widely published. Eat before the show or budget for venue food; the packing list still applies (poncho, power bank, earplugs — concerts are loud too). And screenshot your concert pass just like your race ticket: the mobile network will be crushed.
One more thing: the upgrade emails go to the original ticket buyer. If you bought your race ticket secondhand, make sure the seller forwards any concert upgrade instructions — or confirm directly with the official channels that your ticket qualifies.
